iDump quick start guide

So you downloaded iDump and you want to know how to get started transferring song from your iPod. Well the first thing you need to do is start up iTunes because we need to change the way the iPod is used, by default the iPod is in Sync mode with iTunes so we need to change this to 'Manual Mode' so the iPod show up as an external drive in 'My Computer'.

Go to http://www.escsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8 this will explain how to set you iPod to Manual mode.

You can now start iDump and if you changed your iPod to manual mode iDump will find the iPod and load and display all your songs.

Selecting/Unselecting songs to export
To select songs you can simply click on the checkbox to the left of each song or clicking on a song will also select it, if you wish to select all songs then right mouse click in the list and a pop-up will appear. You can also play the selected song on the default player. Unselecting songs is done in the same way.

Changing the Output Location
You may wish to change the default location folder where all your songs will be copied to on your PC, to do this select the 'Output Options' tab at the top of the main window.

Now we can change the location of our exported songs, so click the browse button and select or Make a new location for all the song to be copied too.

Changing the output format
This option is use to create additional folders to organize the output of the song, because having all your songs in one folder would be very confusing it is simpler to have the music broken down to artists or albums. The default example below first adds our output directory from above 'C:\Users\Andie\Documents\My Music' and then adds the artist name, album and lastly the song itself. so this would look like this 'C:\Users\Andie\Documents\My Music\Michael Jackson\Thriller\Beat it.mp3 all the additional folders will be create with in 'C:\Users\Andie\Documents\My Music'

Examples (in this example I have used Michael Jackson's album Thriller and the song Beat it):

%a\%b\%t = C:\Users\Andie\Documents\My Music\Michael Jackson\Thriller\Beat it.mp3
%g\%a\%b\%t = C:\Users\Andie\Documents\Pop\My Music\Michael Jackson\Thriller\Beat it.mp3
%a\%b\%n - %t = C:\Users\Andie\Documents\My Music\Michael Jackson\Thriller\05 - Beat it.mp3
%a\%b\%y - %t = C:\Users\Andie\Documents\My Music\Michael Jackson\Thriller\1983 - Beat it.mp3

(in the above examples all the information needed to create the export format existed i.e. year/track numbers, if this information does not exist then it is simply omitted.)

Start Copying
If your still in the 'Output Options', select the iPod tab at the top. And if your songs are selected to can start your Copy.
